Hi! I'm Karl.

I've been a freelance eLearning designer since 2002. I'm a proud learning geek with a passion for the craft of learning design.

Some of the courses I design are strictly online, others face to face, or blended. I consider myself a blended learning specialist and believe that the best blends also include social learning or performance support tools. I'm the founder of a company called eLearning Blends and jokingly call myself the Head Blender.

My Education and Background

I completed my MA in Educational Technology at San Diego State University in 2006, then began teaching online courses for SDSU.

  • Exploratory Learning through Games and Simulations
  • The Psychology of Online Learning
  • Collaborative Learning with Blogs and Wikis

I actually started my career during a year spent as a kindergarten teacher in Seoul Korea. I taught ESL to elementary school children in Taiwan for 4 years before goi

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the course start and finish?
The videos and sample materials are yours forever and ever and ever. However, many of those are hidden until our course kickoff. There is also a live component that will begin March 27th and meet for 4 weeks. Our meetings will be held online at 3PM Eastern.
How long do I have access to the course?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
What if I am unhappy with the course?
We would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first 30 days and we will give you a full refund.
I want to join, but can't attend the live class. Can I still join?
Yes, this course is designed to be flexible. You'll be expected to participate in class discussion, but are welcome to watch the archive of our live class.
What version of Storyline do I need?
Good question. I will demo in Storyline 360, but there are only minor differences between other versions. I'll be sure to explain those during the course. Storyline 1, Storyline 2, Storyline 3 or Storyline 360 are appropriate for this class.
What is coaching?
Karl will meet with you in a private webinar. You'll be able to share your screen, camera, and microphone as we discuss the goals for your project and your plans for getting there. This course includes two 30-minute coaching sessions.
Is this course for new storyline users?
Yes, this is designed for someone who has not worked in Storyline before, HOWEVER, the focus of this course is the screen recordings feature. If you're looking to build engaging software training, this is a not a general overview of all Storyline features. (I'm working on that class, too, so stay tuned.)
I've used Storyline for years, why should I take this course?
This course focuses on screen recordings and practice simulations. You'll learn how to maneuver some of the quirky features within Storyline and a lot of our emphasis is on how to make a good design so that your learner's mental wheels are turning.
Is this course fun?
Yes, this experience is being designed to be enjoyable, though there may be challenging moments along the way. Our goal is to help you not only start, but finish. we believe that bad jokes and steady enthusiasm will help you reach those goals.

This course has been designed to help you build skills that transform your life. I've made a comfortable living for my wife and four young boys all thanks to my skills as a Storyline designer and developer. You could do it, too.

There's a lot of bad eLearning out there. If you have the skills to build something better, there is a world of opportunities available to you. Join me to find out more.
